World of Warcraft: Forever keeps every Classic dungeon and adds nine new ones, so the WoW Forever dungeons list runs from Ragefire Chasm at level 13 to the new Shaper’s Terrace at 58 to 60. The beta, which runs until October 21, currently covers the first half of that: Blizzard’s October 1 development notes raised the level cap to 30, opened Razorfen Downs and Uldaman, and added the new Excavation Site: Wetlands.
This guide lists every dungeon by level, separates the new Forever dungeons from the Classic ones, and gives a dungeon route for both factions. The route matters more than it did in Classic: WoW Forever moved most dungeon experience from monsters to dungeon quests, and the October 1 build cut part of that quest bonus again.
Beta warning: the level 30 cap, the level ranges and the XP values below are from the October 1 beta build. Blizzard has already changed one new dungeon’s range during the beta, and more tuning is likely before launch on November 4.
WoW Forever Dungeons Open in the Beta (Level 30 Cap)
As of the October 1 beta build, 14 WoW Forever dungeons are playable: three new ones (Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands) and eleven Classic dungeons. Blizzard publishes level ranges for the new dungeons. For the Classic ones, the table uses the recommended and minimum levels from Zockify’s beta data, except where Blizzard’s notes give a number.
| Dungeon | New or Classic | Entrance | Faction | Level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ragefire Chasm | Classic | Orgrimmar | Horde | rec. 13, min. 10 |
| Hall of Thanes | New | Ironforge | Alliance | 13 to 18 |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | New | Tirisfal Glades | Horde | 15 to 20 |
| The Deadmines | Classic | Westfall | Alliance | rec. 16, min. 10 |
| Wailing Caverns | Classic | The Barrens | Horde side, both | rec. 17, min. 10 |
| Shadowfang Keep | Classic | Silverpine Forest | Horde side, both | rec. 18, min. 14 |
| Blackfathom Deeps | Classic | Ashenvale | Both | rec. 22, min. 15 |
| The Stockade | Classic | Stormwind City | Alliance | rec. 23, min. 15 |
| Razorfen Kraul | Classic | The Barrens | Both | rec. 24, min. 20 |
| Gnomeregan | Classic | Dun Morogh | Alliance side | rec. 25, min. 19 |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | New | Wetlands | Alliance side, contested zone | 26 to 31 (beta, was 24 to 29) |
| Scarlet Monastery (4 wings) | Classic | Tirisfal Glades | Horde side, both | rec. 30 and up, min. 20 |
| Razorfen Downs | Classic | The Barrens | Both | 25+ per Blizzard (Zockify: rec. 34) |
| Uldaman | Classic | Badlands | Both | 30+ per Blizzard (Zockify: rec. 35) |
Two numbers need context. Blizzard’s notes list Razorfen Downs as “25+” and Uldaman as “30+”, which reads like an entry level, not a target range. The beta data on Zockify puts the recommended levels at 34 and 35, so at the current cap of 30 both dungeons will most likely have mobs above your level. Data sites also disagree on Classic ranges in general: Warcraft Tavern lists wider, Classic-style ranges (Gnomeregan and Razorfen Kraul at 29 to 38, for example), while Zockify’s recommended levels sit noticeably lower. The minimum levels match between both sites for most dungeons.
One new dungeon is missing from the beta even though it falls under the cap: the City of Dalaran (28 to 33) in the Alterac Mountains is not on Blizzard’s October 1 list.
New Dungeons in WoW Forever: All Nine by Level
Blizzard announced nine new WoW Forever dungeons, spread across the whole 13 to 60 range. The level ranges below come from Blizzard’s own list, posted after BlizzCon to correct Krol’dok Stronghold to 40 to 45, as quoted by Icy Veins. Excavation Site: Wetlands was moved to 26 to 31 in the October 1 beta build.
| New dungeon | Level | Location | In beta (October 1) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | 13 to 18 | Beneath Ironforge | Yes |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15 to 20 | Tirisfal Glades | Yes |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | 26 to 31 (beta) | Wetlands, above Whelgar’s Excavation | Yes |
| City of Dalaran | 28 to 33 | Alterac Mountains | No |
| The Drowned City | 35 to 40 | Stranglethorn Vale | No |
| Krol’dok Stronghold | 40 to 45 | Riverglades | No |
| Alcaz Prison | 48 to 53 | Dustwallow Marsh | No |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55 to 60 | Azshara | No |
| Shaper’s Terrace | 58 to 60 | Un’Goro Crater | No |
Blizzard’s What’s Next panel recap describes the Hall of Thanes as lying beneath Ironforge and the Ruins of Lordaeron as the place where the Forsaken try to reclaim their old capital. According to Warcraft Tavern, Dark Iron dwarves and restless spirits fill the Hall of Thanes, while the Ruins of Lordaeron hold Scourge remnants and spiders. Both are faction dungeons in practice: Horde players have to sneak deep into Alliance territory to reach the first, and Alliance players face a long trip into Tirisfal for the second.
Classic Dungeons From Level 35 to 60
Every Classic dungeon from Zul’Farrak to Scholomance returns in WoW Forever, alongside the new ones. None of them are open in the beta yet. Recommended levels from Zockify’s beta data:
| Dungeon | Rec. level | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Zul’Farrak | 42 | Tanaris |
| Maraudon | 42 | Desolace |
| Temple of Atal’Hakkar | 45 | Swamp of Sorrows |
| Blackrock Depths | 48 | Blackrock Mountain |
| Lower and Upper Blackrock Spire | 53 | Blackrock Mountain |
| Dire Maul | 54 | Feralas |
| Stratholme | 55 | Eastern Plaguelands |
| Scholomance | 57 | Western Plaguelands |
Dungeon XP in WoW Forever: What Changed on October 1
WoW Forever dungeons give most of their experience through dungeon quests, not monster kills. Blizzard’s Kris Zierhut explained the design in an interview with The Sun (quoted by Zockify): XP from dungeon monsters was brought “way down”, XP from dungeon quests went up a lot, and the first run through a dungeon is meant to be the rewarding one.
The October 1 beta build trimmed that bonus. Blizzard’s notes say dungeon quests “now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values”, framed as a response to feedback on leveling speed. Read carefully, this halves the bonus on top of a normal quest’s XP. A dungeon quest still gives at least as much as a comparable open-world quest. Blizzard hasn’t published how large the bonus was before, so the actual loss per quest is unknown.
What that means for your leveling plan:
- Run each dungeon once with every quest. The quests are the payout. Showing up without them throws away most of the XP.
- Don’t farm dungeons for levels. Repeat runs give low mob XP by design. Blizzard’s own advice in the same interview was to quest in the new zones instead.
- Pick up quests before you travel. Many dungeon quests start in towns far from the entrance, as in Classic, and Blizzard closed several quest-sharing loopholes in the beta, so each player needs their own copy.
For the full list of class and quest changes in that build, see our WoW Forever beta patch notes for October 1.
Best WoW Forever Dungeon Leveling Route: Alliance
This route takes an Alliance character from 13 to the beta cap of 30 through the dungeons that are open now, ordered by level and travel distance. It assumes you quest between runs and enter each dungeon with its quests.
- Hall of Thanes (13 to 18). New, in your own capital, and all of its loot is new. The easiest pick of the route.
- The Deadmines (around 16 to 20). Westfall’s quest chain leads here anyway.
- Blackfathom Deeps (around 22). Worth it if you level through Darkshore and Ashenvale. Skip it if you stay in the Eastern Kingdoms.
- The Stockade (around 23). Short, in Stormwind, and picks up several Stormwind quests.
- Gnomeregan (around 25). Close to Ironforge. Long, so plan a full evening.
- Excavation Site: Wetlands (26 to 31). The second new Alliance-friendly dungeon, close to Menethil Harbor and the obvious one to end the beta route on.
- Scarlet Monastery Graveyard (at 30). Only if you hit the cap and want gear. Library and the later wings sit above the current cap.
Best WoW Forever Dungeon Leveling Route: Horde
The Horde route starts earlier thanks to Ragefire Chasm and has more Classic options in the Barrens. Same assumption: quest between runs and take every dungeon quest with you.
- Ragefire Chasm (13 to 16). Under Orgrimmar, quick, and the first group content you’ll find.
- Ruins of Lordaeron (15 to 20). The new Horde dungeon. Undead players start next door; everyone else takes the zeppelin to Tirisfal.
- Wailing Caverns (around 17 to 22). Many Barrens quests point here. Long and confusing, so go with someone who knows the way.
- Shadowfang Keep (around 18 to 24). Pairs well with Silverpine questing after the Ruins of Lordaeron.
- Blackfathom Deeps (around 22). If you quest in Ashenvale.
- Razorfen Kraul (around 24 to 28). Back in the Barrens, an easy stop between Stonetalon and Thousand Needles.
- Scarlet Monastery Graveyard (at 30). Close to the Undercity and the best use of a capped character in the beta.
Horde players can enter Excavation Site: Wetlands too, since the Wetlands is a contested zone. Whether its quests are available to the Horde isn’t documented yet. Without them, the run is worth much less XP, so check before you make the trip.
Which WoW Forever Dungeons Are Worth Running
In WoW Forever, the strongest reasons to run a dungeon are its quests, its new loot and the Legacy System, so every dungeon on your route is worth one full clear. The ranking below follows those three reasons.
- The new dungeons first. Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron and the Excavation Site have loot nobody has seen in Classic. Blizzard’s systems panel recap also says every unique dungeon boss item is now blue quality, and appearances from bind-on-pickup Uncommon and Rare dungeon drops go to every eligible looter, so you don’t lose a transmog roll to someone who needs the item.
- Dungeons on your quest path. Deadmines, Wailing Caverns and Razorfen Kraul sit in the middle of the questing zones you’ll be in anyway.
- Legacy System challenges. The Spelunker challenges reward clearing a list of dungeons, as explained in our WoW Forever Legacy System guide. Which dungeons count isn’t fully confirmed, but the first set appears to cover the early ones.
- Profession Blueprints. Blizzard says advanced camping Blueprints drop from specific dungeon bosses. Which bosses drop which Blueprint hasn’t been published.
The weakest picks are dungeons far off your route. A trip from Stormwind to the Barrens for Wailing Caverns costs more time than its quests pay back, and with no Dungeon Finder teleport in WoW Forever, travel time is part of the cost.
What Is Beta-Only and Could Change
- Level cap 30. This is a beta phase. At launch on November 4 the cap is 60 and all dungeons open.
- Level ranges. Excavation Site: Wetlands already moved from 24 to 29 to 26 to 31. Other ranges can shift with tuning.
- Dungeon quest XP. The 50% cut to the bonus is a beta change. Blizzard could adjust it again before launch.
- City of Dalaran isn’t in the beta yet, so its quests and loot are untested.
- Datamined dungeons. According to Zockify, the beta client contains two unannounced dungeon maps, Half-Pint Tavern (Arathi Highlands) and Manor Mistmantle (Duskwood). Blizzard’s roadmap, as summarized by Zockify and Warcraft Tavern, plans two new dungeons for spring 2027 and two for summer 2027, but hasn’t named them.
FAQ
How many dungeons are in WoW Forever?
WoW Forever has every Classic dungeon plus nine new ones: Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands, City of Dalaran, The Drowned City, Krol’dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper’s Terrace. Four more new dungeons are planned for 2027.
Can you level by running dungeons in WoW Forever?
Yes, but only the first run with all quests is efficient. Monster XP in WoW Forever dungeons is low by design, and the October 1 beta build halved the extra XP from dungeon quests.
Does WoW Forever have a Dungeon Finder?
WoW Forever has a Looking for Group tool to find players, but it doesn’t teleport you. You travel to the entrance yourself, and meeting stones can’t summon, according to an interview with the developers reported by Zockify. Warlock summons still work.
What level is Excavation Site: Wetlands?
Levels 26 to 31 as of the October 1 beta build. Blizzard’s earlier list had it at 24 to 29.
