Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches on October 9, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and on Steam it unlocks a few hours earlier: October 8 at 5 PM PDT. The name covers two products. Owners of Dragon’s Dogma 2 get the Dark Arisen Expansion as $29.99 DLC, and newcomers get a $49.99 package with the base game and the expansion, which is also how the game arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time (Capcom’s announcement).

If you already own Dragon’s Dogma 2, the short answer is: buy the $29.99 expansion, not the bundle, and keep your save. Below are the unlock times, what each option costs once you do the math, what the expansion adds, the revised PC requirements and our pick for each type of player.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Release Date and Unlock Times

Capcom’s Steam listing says the Dark Arisen Expansion and the pre-order bonus unlock on Thursday, October 8 at 5:00 PM PDT, which is 1:00 AM BST on Friday, October 9. That is midnight UTC, so it works out like this:

Time zoneUnlock time
PDT (US West)October 8, 5:00 PM
EDT (US East)October 8, 8:00 PM
BST (UK)October 9, 1:00 AM
CEST (Central Europe)October 9, 2:00 AM
JST (Japan)October 9, 9:00 AM

These times come from Steam. As of October 2, Capcom had not published separate unlock times for PS5, Xbox or Switch 2, so check your console’s store page for its countdown. On Steam, pre-purchasing the $49.99 bundle gives you the base game right away, so new players can start the main story before the expansion unlocks.

Platforms, Price and Editions

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen costs $49.99 as a bundle on all four platforms, and the expansion alone costs $29.99 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 has no standalone expansion because Dragon’s Dogma 2 was never released there.

PlatformExpansion onlyBase game + expansion
PC (Steam)$29.99$49.99
PS5$29.99$49.99
Xbox Series X|S$29.99$49.99
Nintendo Switch 2Not sold separately$49.99

The bundle is a better deal than it looks. Since June 24, Dragon’s Dogma 2 costs $39.99 on Steam after a permanent price cut, and the Steam bundle also includes the Explorer’s Camping Kit and the Music & Sound Collection ($2.99 each). Bought separately, that is $75.96, so the $49.99 bundle saves $25.97. For comparison, the base game alone cost $69.99 at launch in March 2024. We could only confirm the two small extras for the Steam bundle.

Digital pre-orders of either the bundle or the expansion get the Norgan Fashion Set – Northern Attire. Steam’s listing notes the set may be sold later, so it is not a strong reason to pre-order. We found no deluxe or collector’s edition in Capcom’s or Steam’s listings.

Do Dragon’s Dogma 2 Owners Need to Buy Dark Arisen?

Existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 owners only need the $29.99 Dark Arisen Expansion. It installs on top of the game you own and works with your current save, as long as the game is on the latest patch. Do not buy the $49.99 bundle on the same platform: you would pay for the base game twice, and Steam warns about exactly that duplicate purchase.

You won’t need to finish the story first. Director Kento Kinoshita and producer Naoto Oyama said in Capcom’s July 31 Q&A that both new content areas open early: you talk to Brant at the tavern after arriving in Vernworth. Recommended starting levels are 20 for the Lost Rites dungeons and 40 for the Norgan story, but neither is locked behind them.

Much of the work that makes the expansion easier to enjoy is already in your game for free. Title Update 3.2, live since early September, raised weapon skill slots from four to six, added three save slots and three save types (Autosave, Interim Save and Last Inn Rest Save), added an item that cures Dragonsplague, and targets 60 fps in Performance Mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. With three save slots you can start a fresh Arisen for the expansion without deleting your old one.

One thing Capcom hasn’t announced is cross-platform save transfer. If you played on PS5 or Xbox and plan to buy the Switch 2 version, assume you start over.

What the Dark Arisen Expansion Adds

The Dark Arisen Expansion adds a new region, 12 dungeons in the existing map, a loot system with random stats and new skills for every vocation. The full list from Capcom’s store page and Q&A:

  • Norgan (Forsaken Dominion): an abandoned snowy region in the north with a new story alongside Eir about the undying Fallen Dragon, plus side quests from the Norgandian Settlement and a research expedition.
  • Relic Appraisal: you dig up relics and have them appraised into weapons, armor and skills with random parameters. Capcom calls the loop an evolved version of the original Dark Arisen’s, but it takes place in the open map instead of one dungeon.
  • Lost Rites: 12 dungeon challenges spread across Vermund and Battahl, each holding gear that belonged to past Arisen.
  • New skills: new skills for each vocation plus higher ranks of existing ones. There are no new vocations.
  • New enemies: Norgan variants of existing monsters plus new ones built on new skeletons.
  • Gear appearance: a side quest chain unlocks changing the look of Norgan gear while keeping its stats.
  • Character Creator: new hairstyles and tattoos.

Difficulty ramps up as you progress, and Capcom says the later parts are tuned to challenge characters at the stat cap. A separate Hard Mode is in development, but as of October 2 it has no release window, so don’t expect it on October 9. On length, VGC reported the producer putting the expansion at more than 25 hours; treat that as a developer estimate until reviews arrive.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen PC Requirements

Capcom revised the Dragon’s Dogma 2 PC requirements with Title Update 3.2 and says they apply to both the base game and the Dark Arisen Expansion. As listed on Steam on October 2:

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 11 64-bitWindows 11 64-bit
CPUIntel Core i5-8500 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500Intel Core i7-10700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
RAM16 GB16 GB
GPUGeForce GTX 1660 / Radeon RX 5500 XT (8 GB)GeForce RTX 2070 Super / Radeon RX 6600 XT
Target1080p with upscaling, 45 to 60 fps1080p with upscaling, 60 fps

Both targets assume the Prioritize Performance graphics preset. Ray tracing needs an RTX 2080 Ti or RX 6800, and Capcom recommends an SSD. Steam does not list a storage size. Capcom still warns that frame rates drop under heavy processing load, which in Dragon’s Dogma 2 has always meant the CPU-heavy cities.

Is Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Worth It? Who Should Buy It

No reviews are out as of October 2, so this is a call based on price and announced content.

  • You finished Dragon’s Dogma 2 and wanted more: buy the $29.99 expansion. A new region, 12 dungeons, a random-loot system and content tuned for capped characters is exactly what the base game lacked after the credits.
  • You never played it (PC, PS5, Xbox): the $49.99 bundle costs $20 less than the base game alone did at launch. Don’t buy the base game on its own now.
  • You quit over performance, saves or Dragonsplague: load your save first. Title Update 3.2 fixed much of that for free, and you’ll know within an hour whether you want the expansion.
  • You want it on Switch 2: wait for performance tests. Capcom says the port renders at 30 fps and uses FSR frame generation to show 60, with an option to turn it off (per Notebookcheck, citing V Jump at Tokyo Game Show), but the native resolution is unknown.
  • You mainly want Hard Mode: wait, since it has no date yet.

Dark Arisen is one of several big launches this month. Our October 2026 game releases list has the rest, from Gears of War: E-Day to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
