ByteTavern publishes guides and news for World of Warcraft: Forever, WoW Classic and Diablo, with other Blizzard and gaming news on the side. Most of the site is guides: leveling routes, dungeons, professions, farming spots and reputation.
Who writes ByteTavern
Current guides and news are written by Arez, who has played World of Warcraft since 2006 and almost every expansion since. Arez covers WoW Forever, WoW Classic and Diablo, with a focus on guides built on real numbers: racials, talents, patch notes and what they mean in practice. Older guides in the archive, which goes back to 2019, are being rewritten under the same rules.
How the guides are made
Every guide links the official sources it rests on, such as Blizzard’s news posts, patch and development notes, blue posts and interviews. The link sits in the text where the fact comes up, and the main sources are listed again at the end. Fan sites and databases are named in the text when a number comes from them, without a link.
Each fact is labeled by where it comes from:
- Confirmed: Blizzard said it, and the guide names where.
- Beta-tested: players checked it in the beta, with the build or date given.
- Datamined: read from the beta client’s game data and not announced by Blizzard, so it can still change.
- Classic data: where WoW Forever data doesn’t exist yet, such as herb and ore spawns or NPC positions, the guide uses the Classic values and says so.
- Unknown: said plainly. Estimates are marked as estimates, with the numbers they’re based on.
Maps are drawn on Blizzard’s own zone maps with coordinates from the sources, never placed by guesswork. Where only the rough area is known, the map marks an area and calls it approximate. Images are official Blizzard or publisher material and are credited on the page.
How guides are kept up to date
When Blizzard changes the game, the existing guide gets updated instead of a new post on the same topic. Each change adds a dated line to the guide’s intro, for example “Updated October 11: …”, so you can see what changed and when. The WoW Forever guides written before the November 4 launch are based on beta builds and get checked against the live game after launch.
Report an error
If you find a wrong number or an outdated fact, send it through the contact page. Name the page and what’s wrong, and if you can, add your source or where you saw it in game, with the realm type and date. Confirmed corrections go into the guide with a dated update note.
