World of Warcraft: Forever adds nine new dungeons (Blizzard’s What’s Next panel recap names them all), and as of the October 1 beta build only four have a known entrance. Three of the WoW Forever new dungeons are open in the beta: the Hall of Thanes, the Ruins of Lordaeron and the Excavation Site in the Wetlands. The City of Dalaran joined the beta on October 8; its entrances below come from beta data and haven’t been confirmed by players yet. The other five have a zone and nothing more.

Below: where each one is, how Alliance and Horde get there, and where every dungeon quest starts, with a map for each known entrance. Levels, the leveling route and dungeon XP are in our WoW Forever dungeons by level guide.

Status labels: beta-tested means players have run the dungeon on the beta, datamined means the data comes from the beta client, and location only means Blizzard named the place but nothing shows the door yet. The beta ends October 21; we will recheck every coordinate at launch on November 4.

Level ranges are Blizzard’s (via Icy Veins); the Excavation Site moved from 24-29 to 26-31 in the October 1 build. Riverglades already shows on the Forever Eastern Kingdoms map (Warcraft Wiki and Icy Veins versions): east-coast land south of the Badlands and east of the Burning Steppes that the Classic map lacks, where Blizzard’s Found Photos panel recap puts the zone.

Where Is the Hall of Thanes? Entrance in Ironforge

The Hall of Thanes entrance is inside Ironforge, under the High Seat. From the Great Forge, walk into King Magni’s throne room and turn left into a cobwebbed passage at 43.5, 52.0 (Warcraft Tavern and kami-labs; Zockify has 44.5, 49.4). Downstairs, take the first stairs up on your left, then the path that leads down, to a bridge (Zockify). The portal is just past it, at about 27.8, 47.9 on the Ironforge map (wowhandbook). Mind the lava on the way down; Warcraft Tavern warns a fall is lethal.

Status: beta-tested. Alliance players fly to Ironforge or take the Deeprun Tram from Stormwind, and pick up two quests on the walk down to the portal.

Old Ironforge Incursion and The Treaty of Understanding end at King Magni (40.0, 55.2), a few steps from the passage. Quest data: Zockify, Warcraft Tavern and Icy Veins.

Can Horde Do the Hall of Thanes?

Horde players can enter the Hall of Thanes, but the walk there is the hard part and most of its quests are Alliance-only. The instance isn’t faction-locked (Warcraft Tavern), and Method describes the Horde trip from the Undercity through Hillsbrad, Arathi, the Wetlands and Loch Modan. The last stretch runs through the Ironforge gate and into the throne room next to King Magni and his guards, at level 13 to 18.

Whether Horde gets any of the five quests is disputed:

  • wowforevertalents, which reads quest data from the beta client, flags only The Restless Dead as Alliance-only.
  • Zockify marks all five as Alliance-only, without per-quest data.
  • Warcraft Tavern says Horde players get no quests.
  • Icy Veins marks three as Alliance-only and leaves Important Heirlooms and An Ancient Grudge unmarked.
  • Method says Horde gets two, but names The Restless Dead and An Ancient Grudge in its list and Important Heirlooms and An Ancient Grudge in its text.

Our read: Horde can most likely take two quests, Important Heirlooms (it pays Gadgetzan reputation, a neutral goblin faction, while the Alliance-only quests pay Ironforge or Gnomeregan Exiles) and An Ancient Grudge, from a ghost inside. No Horde player has been shown doing either yet, and Thom Filch stands under Alliance Ironforge, so don’t build a Horde route around them. Without quests the run pays less, since WoW Forever cut dungeon mob XP (the October 8 build raised it again by about 20%). Method also found no trace of a rumored secret Horde teleporter quest. For Horde, the Ruins of Lordaeron covers the same levels.

How to Get to the Ruins of Lordaeron

The Ruins of Lordaeron entrance is on the surface above the Undercity, at 72.4, 11.6 on the Undercity map (Warcraft Tavern; Zockify has 71.6, 11.4, and kami-labs gives 64.3, 67.2 on the Tirisfal Glades map). Walk through the front gate of the ruins and, before you reach the keep, look left: the portal is up a set of stairs. Status: beta-tested.

Horde: Undead start next door. Everyone else takes the zeppelin from Orgrimmar to Tirisfal Glades, or flies to the Undercity. Four Horde quests start outside the dungeon, in the Undercity, Tirisfal and Silverpine Forest, so collect them first.

Alliance: this is the longest trip of any new dungeon. Blizzard’s Found Photos recap confirms a new boat route linking Menethil Harbor, Southshore and Auberdine. Warcraft Tavern’s route: take that boat from Menethil to Southshore (or fly there), ride west into Silverpine Forest and north into Tirisfal Glades. The last stretch runs through Horde land and past the Undercity. If you die after entering, your ghost appears in the ruins’ courtyard, per Warcraft Tavern, so get inside first.

Two more Horde quests start from items inside: Unending Torment (the Baron’s Abominable Head, a chain in the Undercity) and Crest of Lordaeron. All four Alliance quests start inside too: Abominable Creatures from Captain Truman, on your left as you enter, plus Bloodied Insignia, Remember That I Love You (a letter by Edward Heartweaver’s body) and the Alliance Crest of Lordaeron, the last three turned in at Stormwind. The Crest spawns at one of several random spots, per Zockify.

Excavation Site: Wetlands Location and Entrance

The Excavation Site: Wetlands portal sits on a hilltop south-east of Whelgar’s Excavation, at 47.9, 56.5 in the Wetlands (Zockify: 47.8, 56.3). You can’t climb straight up: the path starts near the spider cave by Thelgen Rock at 53.2, 65.8 and winds up to the portal. Don’t mix it up with Whelgar’s Excavation itself, the open-world dig to the west. Status: beta-tested, added in the October 1 build.

Alliance: fly to Menethil Harbor, where two of the quests start, and ride east along the main road. Horde: the Wetlands has no Horde flight path. Fly to Hammerfall in the Arathi Highlands, take Dragonmaw Rumors from Zaruk there, and ride south over Thandol Span. The Deathstalker Agent who takes that quest waits behind a small hill near the entrance.

The last boss, the Relic Guardian, drops a Titan Relic that starts one more quest per faction: Lost Relic Carry (Alliance), handed to Prospector Whelgar in his cave at 38.8, 52.3 (badge 5), and Elder Knowledge (Horde), handed to Bashana Runetotem in Thunder Bluff. Both chains had a bugged follow-up early in the beta; the October 8 build fixed it by handing the Titan Relic back for the follow-ups, Prehistoric Prism and Earthen Echo. Every quest here needs level 24. Quest data: Warcraft Tavern and Zockify.

City of Dalaran Dungeon Location

The City of Dalaran dungeon is inside the rebuilt city of Dalaran in the south-west of the Alterac Mountains, by Lordamere Lake north of Hillsbrad. It isn’t in the beta yet; Blizzard’s Josh Greenfield said on October 1 that it comes in a future beta update (via Icy Veins). This section relies on Zockify’s beta data, so treat it as datamined.

Zockify lists two ways in. Alliance players enter through the Dalaran Sewers: open the gate in front of the large pipe in the Cantrips & Crows area and follow the pipe to the portal (approximate spot: 14.2, 61.1 on the Alterac Mountains map). Horde players use an entrance outside the city at 8.8, 59.6 that needs a Dalaran Sewer Key; where the key comes from is unknown. Nearest flight paths: Southshore (Alliance) and Tarren Mill (Horde) in Hillsbrad.

Zockify and kami-labs disagree on the Stormwind givers’ coordinates (31.5, 62.6 and 48.7, 87.6 versus 15.2, 49.8 and 37.6, 81.4 for Shylamiir and Andromath), probably because they use different Stormwind maps.

The Five New Dungeons Without a Known Entrance

The other five WoW Forever new dungeons have no instance map in the beta client yet, so there is no entrance or quest giver to point to. Here is what is known.

DungeonLevelWhereWhat is known
The Drowned City35-40Off the Stranglethorn Vale coastTroll ruins risen from the sea, with naga and pirates (Blizzard). Playable at BlizzCon. Which stretch of coast is unknown.
Krol’dok Stronghold40-45RivergladesOgres and the Twilight’s Hammer (Warcraft Tavern). The client has an outdoor area of that name in Riverglades (wowforevertalents).
Alcaz Prison48-53Alcaz Island, off Dustwallow MarshDefias prisoners and naga (Warcraft Tavern). The island lies north-east of Theramore.
Blackmaw Hold55-60Northern AzsharaA furbolg city behind a gate that never opened. The client renames the Azshara area Classic calls Timbermaw Hold to Blackmaw Hold (wowforevertalents).
Shaper’s Terrace58-60Un’Goro CraterA Titan facility in the hills of Un’Goro. The client adds an area called The Shaper’s Terrace (wowforevertalents).

Classic flight paths get you close: Booty Bay and Grom’gol for Stranglethorn, Theramore and Brackenwall Village for Alcaz Island, Talrendis Point and Valormok for Azshara, Marshal’s Refuge for Un’Goro. Riverglades is new: Blizzard’s recap says a Steamwheedle Cartel boat runs from Tanaris to Powderfuse Port, the zone’s goblin harbor. Its flight points are Farholde Keep (Alliance), Rog’mar (Horde) and Powderfuse Port, whose faction access differs between sources (wowforever.be). Blizzard calls Riverglades a mid-level zone; fan data sites put it at about 35 to 45.

With the beta capped at 30, these five will most likely stay unmapped until launch. Plan around them with our WoW Forever leveling guide.

FAQ
