World of Warcraft: Forever hasn’t announced its riding prices yet, which is why the WoW Forever mount cost numbers online disagree. What Blizzard has confirmed is the model: riding works the way it did in The Burning Crusade, the gold moves into riding training, and learning to ride gives you a mount. The beta client adds two numbers, listed by WoW Forever Builds from build 1.60.1.70094: mounts that need level 40 and Riding 75 cost 20 gold, and mounts that need level 60 and Riding 150 cost 200 gold. The training price itself isn’t in the files.
Until trainer prices show up, plan on 100 gold for your first mount at level 40, the Classic total, and treat anything less as a bonus. Below: what’s confirmed, datamined or guessed, how Forever compares with Classic, and where every race learns to ride.
Beta status: the October 1 build caps the beta at level 30, below the expected riding level, and the beta ends on October 21. We’ll update this guide with real prices after launch on November 4.
WoW Forever Mount Cost: Confirmed, Datamined and Guessed
Three kinds of WoW Forever mount cost numbers circulate, and only the first comes from Blizzard.
Confirmed by Blizzard
- Burning Crusade-style cost. Blizzard’s systems panel recap (September 13) says Forever is “shifting the up-front mount cost into training” and grants a mount when you learn the riding skill. No price, no level.
- No flying. The What’s Next panel recap (September 12) lists “no flying mounts, no level scaling” among Forever’s design principles.
- Pack mounts need training too. Blizzard’s pre-purchase announcement (September 12) says owners of the Cerulean Prideclaw from the Skyborne packs still have to buy the riding skill in game to use it.
- Forsaken Paladins get an epic mount quest. The Found Photos panel recap (September 13) confirms a level 60 mount quest of their own.
- No riding or mount change appears in Blizzard’s beta development notes up to the October 1 update.
Datamined from the beta client
WoW Forever Builds took the 20 and 200 gold mount prices above from beta build 1.60.1.70094. The training price isn’t in the data, which is expected: trainer prices come from the server, not the game client. Icy Veins found the same 40 and 60 breakpoints for the new Skyborne racial mounts in the first beta build (September 16).
Read the 20 gold carefully. It’s the price on the mount item, and under the Burning Crusade model the trainer hands you your first mount. Our reading: 20 and 200 gold are what extra mounts or other colors cost at the vendor, not the full bill for learning to ride.
Numbers without a source
The most copied figure is 80 gold for Apprentice Riding plus 20 gold for the mount, then 900 gold plus 100 gold at level 60. Gamepur published that split on September 27, attributed to “beta information and player predictions” without a build, link or screenshot. We don’t use it, for three reasons:
- No beta player can have paid it. The beta opened with a level 20 cap and the October 1 build raised it to 30, and we found no report of a riding trainer’s price list.
- The 80 gold is arithmetic: Classic’s 100 gold total minus the datamined 20 gold mount.
- The level 60 half contradicts the client data. It prices the epic mount at 100 gold; the datamine says 200.
Even Timesaver, a boosting shop, calls the 80/20 split an extrapolation from Classic.
WoW Forever vs Classic: Mount Cost Comparison
Icy Veins’ Classic riding guide and Blizzard Watch agree on 100 gold for the 60% mount and 1,000 gold for the epic mount, before discounts. Warcraft Wiki’s riding history covers The Burning Crusade, the model Blizzard says Forever copies.
| Version | Level 40 (60% speed) | Level 60 (100% speed) | How solid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 20g training + 80g mount = 100g | 100g training + 900g mount = 1,000g | Classic data (Icy Veins, Blizzard Watch) |
| The Burning Crusade at launch | 90g training, mount bought separately | 900g training (later 600g), mount bought separately | Warcraft Wiki |
| WoW Forever | Training includes a mount, price not announced | Not announced | Confirmed model (Blizzard, September 13) |
| WoW Forever beta client | Mount item 20g, level 40, Riding 75 | Mount item 200g, level 60, Riding 150 | Datamined, build 1.60.1.70094 |
| Circulating guess | 80g training + 20g mount | 900g training + 100g mount | Unsourced (Gamepur, September 27) |
Icy Veins puts 100 gold on Classic’s epic training and 900 on the mount; Warcraft Wiki puts 900 on the training. The 1,000 gold total is the same. Classic also took 10% off at Honored with the race’s home faction and 10% more at PvP rank 3. Forever hasn’t said whether either discount returns.
What the datamined prices would save
Any saving depends on the trainer’s price, the one number nobody has. Three scenarios against Classic, before discounts:
| Scenario (our estimate) | Level 40 total | Saved vs Classic | Level 60 total | Saved vs Classic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forever keeps Classic’s totals | 100g | 0g | 1,000g | 0g |
| Forever uses Burning Crusade launch training prices, mount included | 90g | 10g | 900g | 100g |
| The datamined mount prices are the whole bill | 20g | 80g | 200g | 800g |
We’d plan for one of the first two rows. Blizzard’s wording describes moving the cost from the mount to the trainer, not cutting it, and the third row would be an 80% price cut that nobody at Blizzard has hinted at.
What Level Do You Get a Mount in WoW Forever?
Blizzard hasn’t announced the riding level, but the beta data points to level 40 for the first mount (60% speed) and level 60 for the epic mount (100% speed), the same as Classic. Both the vendor mount items and the Skyborne Galestriders carry those requirements. There are no flying mounts at any level.
Where to Learn Riding and Buy Mounts in WoW Forever
Each race’s riding trainer and mount vendor stand next to each other in the same town. Forever’s NPC positions aren’t public yet; these are the Classic locations from Icy Veins and Blizzard Watch, and Forever keeps the same towns. The map places them on Forever’s own continent maps.

| # | Race (mount) | Riding trainer | Mount vendor | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Human (horse) | Randal Hunter | Katie Hunter | Eastvale Logging Camp, Elwynn Forest 84, 65 |
| 2 | Dwarf (ram) | Ultham Ironhorn | Veron Amberstill | Amberstill Ranch, Dun Morogh 63, 50 |
| 3 | Gnome (mechanostrider) | Binjy Featherwhistle | Milli Featherwhistle | Kharanos, Dun Morogh 49, 48 |
| 4 | Night Elf (nightsaber) | Jartsam | Lelanai | Cenarion Enclave, Darnassus 38, 16 |
| 5 | Orc (wolf) | Kildar | Ogunaro Wolfrunner | Valley of Honor, Orgrimmar 69, 13 |
| 6 | Troll (raptor) | Xar’Ti | Zjolnir | Sen’jin Village, Durotar 55, 75 |
| 7 | Tauren (kodo) | Kar Stormsinger | Harb Clawhoof | Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore 47, 58 |
| 8 | Undead (skeletal horse) | Velma Warnam | Zachariah Post | Brill, Tirisfal Glades 60, 52 |
| – | Skyborne (Galestrider) | Unknown | Unknown | Not public yet |
One open question: in Classic you could only learn another race’s riding skill at Exalted reputation with that race’s faction. The Burning Crusade made riding training no longer faction-specific, so if Forever copies that part too, any riding trainer of your faction might teach you. Blizzard hasn’t said.
Skyborne mounts
Skyborne ride Galestriders. According to Icy Veins’ look at the first beta build, the unarmored Galestriders are the 60% mounts at level 40 and the armored ones the 100% mounts at level 60. Where Skyborne train riding and buy Galestriders isn’t public: their start zone, Zephras Isle, sits on neither continent, and no data site we checked lists a vendor.
Paladin and Warlock Mounts in WoW Forever
In Classic, Paladins and Warlocks never had to buy a mount: both got theirs from class quests at 40 and 60. For WoW Forever, Blizzard has only confirmed the Forsaken Paladin’s level 60 quest; the rest is Classic data.
| Class | Level 40 in Classic | Level 60 in Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paladin (Alliance) | Warhorse: The Tome of Nobility, from Duthorian Rall in Stormwind Cathedral | Charger: Judgment and Redemption chain, finished in Scholomance | Not announced |
| Paladin (Undead) | Not in Classic | Not in Classic | Own level 60 epic mount quest (Blizzard); Forsaken Charger in beta data (Icy Veins) |
| Warlock | Felsteed: from Strahad Farsan in Ratchet | Dreadsteed: Dreadsteed of Xoroth in Dire Maul | Not announced |
The open question is the riding skill. If Forever requires trained riding for class mounts, as it does for the Prideclaw, Paladins and Warlocks pay the trainer like everyone else and most of their gold advantage disappears. Blizzard hasn’t addressed it.
Mount Speed Bonuses in WoW Forever
The biggest new mount speed bonus may come from Leatherworking. Zockify’s Leatherworking overview lists a craftable saddle that increases mounted speed by up to 5% at max level among the profession’s Forever changes, but the beta client’s Leatherworking data has no saddle recipe or item as of October 11. WoW Forever Builds also lists a Leatherworking effect called Must Go Faster…, which raises mounted speed while Leatherworking is trained, from community talent-calculator data. They may be the same feature; Blizzard hasn’t confirmed a value.
Classic’s stacking speed items (Mithril Spurs, Enchant Gloves – Riding Skill, Carrot on a Stick) aren’t confirmed for Forever.
None of the Legacy perks in the beta data raise mount speed. The travel perk is Frequent Flier (flight paths 50% cheaper and 20% faster), and Bartering takes up to 10% off vendor prices; whether riding trainers count is unknown. The Legacy Reward Track also has a mount, the Reins of the Spectral Bear at 55 points in the BlizzCon build. Our WoW Forever Legacy System guide has the full perk list and builds.
Gold Plan for Your Level 40 Mount (Our Estimate)
Target: 100 gold at level 40. That’s our estimate, based on Blizzard describing the cost as moved rather than reduced. If the trainer is cheaper, the rest goes toward your epic mount.
- Take a gathering profession at level 1. Herbalism, Mining or Skinning cost nothing to level, and on a fresh economy every crafter needs their materials.
- Skip auction house gear. Quest rewards and crafted leveling gear carry you to 40. Our WoW Forever leveling guide keeps you on quest routes, which is where most of your early gold comes from.
- Start saving at 30. In Classic, class training gets expensive in the 30s, so put gold aside from each quest turn-in instead of hoping for a windfall at 39.
- Get Honored with your home city if discounts return. In Classic that took 10% off training and the mount. Forever hasn’t confirmed reputation discounts.
- Don’t buy a vendor mount before you train. The trainer gives you one. The vendor is for a second color later.

Blizzard hasn’t announced the price. The beta client shows level 40 mount items at 20 gold and level 60 mounts at 200 gold, but the riding training cost isn’t in the files. Plan for about 100 gold at level 40, the Classic total, until trainer prices are known.
What level do you get a mount in WoW Forever?
Most likely level 40 for 60% speed and level 60 for 100% speed. Those are the level requirements on the mount items in the beta client; Blizzard hasn’t confirmed them.
