This Sha’tar rep guide takes you from Neutral to Exalted with The Sha’tar, the naaru faction led by A’dal that rules Shattrath City. The short version: Aldor or Scryer quests carry you to the end of Friendly for free, a handful of Sha’tar quests push you into Honored, and everything after that comes from the three Tempest Keep dungeons in Netherstorm: The Mechanar, The Botanica and The Arcatraz. Revered sells the Warpforged Key for heroic Tempest Keep, and Exalted sells three epics, including one of the best pre-raid healing maces in the game.

The numbers here are for the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms, which moved to Phase 3 (Black Temple) on August 27, 2026, according to Blizzard’s Phase 3 announcement. Rep values match the 2021 TBC Classic realms and the original expansion; only the heroic key rules differ, and that part is marked below.

Updated September 25, 2026: rewritten for TBC Anniversary with rep per run, run counts and the current heroic key rules.

Quick Answer: Fastest Way to Sha’tar Exalted

The fastest way to Sha’tar Exalted is to let Aldor or Scryer rep fill Neutral and Friendly, save the Netherstorm quest chain for Honored, then farm The Botanica: normal until Revered, heroic after that. In order:

  1. Neutral to 5999/6000 Friendly: quest and do turn-ins for the Aldor or the Scryers. Half of that rep also goes to the Sha’tar until you hit the end of Friendly.
  2. Friendly to Honored: do the Sha’tar quests you haven’t done yet, especially the Netherstorm chain that ends with Special Delivery to Shattrath City (1,000 rep) and the Arcatraz key quest (another 1,000).
  3. Honored to Revered (12,000 rep): normal Botanica or Mechanar runs, about 6 to 8 full clears, plus the Tempest Keep daily whenever it comes up.
  4. Revered to Exalted (21,000 rep): buy the Warpforged Key and run heroic Botanica, about 7 full clears.

Counting from the end of Friendly, that is roughly 10 to 13 dungeon runs in total, depending on how many Sha’tar quests you still have open. At 40 to 50 minutes per run (our estimate for a normal pickup group), plan on 7 to 11 hours of dungeons.

Sha’tar Rep Per Dungeon Run (Normal vs Heroic)

The three Tempest Keep dungeons give Sha’tar rep all the way to Exalted on both normal and heroic, with no cap. Normal full clears give 1,600 to 2,200 rep and heroic clears 2,100 to 3,200. Trash mobs give 12 rep each (up to 24 for some Arcatraz packs), bosses give 120, and heroic mode pays more per kill.

DungeonNormal full clearHeroic full clearNotes
The Mechanarabout 1,600about 2,100Shortest of the three, no key needed on normal
The Botanicaabout 2,200about 3,200Most rep per run, long trash-heavy layout
The Arcatrazabout 1,800about 2,500Needs the Key to the Arcatraz (or a rogue with 350 lockpicking)

Warcraft Wiki lists 3,245 for heroic Botanica and about 2,600 for heroic Arcatraz, Warcraft Tavern 3,200 and 2,500. The gap is a few trash packs and doesn’t change the run counts.

Best Dungeon for Sha’tar Rep: Botanica or Mechanar?

The Botanica is the best dungeon for Sha’tar rep per run, and The Mechanar wins per hour if your group is fast. A Mechanar clear gives 73% of Botanica’s rep on normal (1,600 vs 2,200) and 66% on heroic (2,100 vs 3,200). So if Mechanar takes you less than three quarters of your Botanica time on normal, or two thirds on heroic, farm Mechanar. The Arcatraz is the weakest farm: less rep than Botanica, harder trash, and it needs a key.

How Many Runs to Revered and Exalted

From the start of Honored, Sha’tar Revered takes about 6 normal Botanica clears and Exalted about 7 more heroic Botanica clears. The table assumes full clears and no quest rep, so treat it as the upper limit. The heroic column starts at Revered because you need the Warpforged Key to enter.

StageRep neededMechanar (N / H)Botanica (N / H)Arcatraz (N / H)
Honored to Revered12,0008 / not available6 / not available7 / not available
Revered to Exalted21,00014 / 1010 / 712 / 9

Humans need about 10% fewer runs thanks to the Diplomacy racial. Every quest you turn in along the way removes about half a run per 1,000 rep.

Why Is My Sha’tar Rep Stuck at 5999/6000 Friendly?

Sha’tar rep stops at 5999/6000 Friendly because that is where the Aldor and Scryer spillover ends. Every Aldor or Scryer quest and turn-in gives the Sha’tar half of its rep (Warcraft Wiki’s example: Allegiance to the Scryers gives 3,500 Scryer rep and 1,750 Sha’tar rep), but only until the end of Friendly. To reach Honored you need Sha’tar quests or kills inside Tempest Keep.

It doesn’t matter whether you picked the Aldor or the Scryers; both spill over the same way. If you still have to make that choice, our Aldor vs Scryer reputation guide covers the differences. These are the repeatable turn-ins and what they add to the Sha’tar before the cap:

Turn-in (Aldor / Scryers)Aldor or Scryer repSha’tar spillover
10 Marks of Kil’jaeden / 10 Firewing Signets250125
10 Marks of Sargeras / 10 Sunfury Signets250125
1 Fel Armament / 1 Arcane Tome350175
Dreadfang Venom Sacs / Dampscale Basilisk Eyes250125

Filling Neutral and Friendly takes 9,000 Sha’tar rep, so 18,000 Aldor or Scryer rep, which most characters earn just by questing through Outland. Timing tip: Sha’tar quests done before the cap fill space that spillover would have filled anyway. If you plan to push the Aldor or Scryers further, keep the Netherstorm chain for after you hit 5999.

Sha’tar Quests: Where the One-Time Rep Is

Sha’tar quests give about 9,900 rep on Alliance (25 quests) and 11,100 on Horde (29 quests), according to Warcraft Wiki’s quest list. Horde gets more because of a Nagrand chain that starts with the Mag’har.

Quest areaSha’tar repNotes
Terokkar Forest1,610Sha’tari Base Camp chains, For the Fallen, The Dread Relic
Auchindoun area1,610The I See Dead Draenei chain, ending with Levixus the Soul Caller
Nagrand (Horde only)1,200When Spirits Speak chain, continues for Mag’har rep only
Shadowmoon Valley1,650Akama’s Promise (1,000), Battle of the Crimson Watch (500)
Netherstorm and Tempest Keep3,000Special Delivery to Shattrath City, How to Break Into the Arcatraz, Harbinger of Doom
Trials of the Naaru2,010Heroic dungeon trials plus Magtheridon, 500 each; most players do them after Revered

The Netherstorm chain is the big one. It starts with Nether-Stalker Khay’ji’s Consortium quests at Area 52 and ends with Special Delivery to Shattrath City (1,000 rep). A’dal then wants the two Arcatraz key shards from the Mechanar and the Botanica (1,000 rep plus the Key to the Arcatraz), and Harbinger of Doom pays 1,000 for the last Arcatraz boss. You run those dungeons anyway, so this is free rep.

Dungeon Dailies and Other Sha’tar Rep Boosts

The two dungeon daily quest givers in Shattrath’s Lower City add Sha’tar rep whenever their daily targets a Tempest Keep dungeon: 250 from Nether-Stalker Mah’duun’s normal daily and 350 from Wind Trader Zhareem’s heroic daily, each also paying Consortium rep. The target rotates daily. The Consortium side is covered in our Consortium reputation guide.

  • A’dal’s Song of Battle: when a player turns in the Verdant Sphere from Kael’thas Sunstrider to A’dal, players in the three Tempest Keep dungeons get a two-hour buff: 10% more Sha’tar rep from kills, plus 5% damage and healing. Worth starting a run for.
  • Diplomacy (Human racial): 10% more rep from every source.
  • No rep from The Eye: the Tempest Keep raid gives no Sha’tar rep, only the three five-player wings do.

Warpforged Key: Heroic Tempest Keep on TBC Anniversary

The Warpforged Key opens heroic Mechanar, Botanica and Arcatraz, and on TBC Anniversary realms it requires Sha’tar Revered as of September 25, 2026. It is a cheap vendor item from Almaador, the Sha’tari Quartermaster on the Terrace of Light in the center of Shattrath.

This is where the versions differ. In the original TBC the key dropped to Honored with patch 2.3 (Zul’Aman), and in 2021 TBC Classic with Phase 4. On Anniversary, Zul’Aman is the next phase, planned for autumn 2026 without an exact date. Several guide sites expect keys to drop to Honored with it, but Blizzard hasn’t confirmed that for Anniversary yet.

Alts have it much easier on Anniversary. Blizzard’s November 2025 development notes, as reported by Warcraft Tavern, made heroic attunements account-wide: once your first character is Revered, it can buy a bag with an account-bound key for alts. The alt only needs Friendly with the Sha’tar to use it, which Aldor or Scryer spillover alone covers. The same system covers the Auchindoun heroics, see our Lower City rep guide.

All three dungeons float above Netherstorm, so you need a flying mount or a summon at the meeting stone. On normal, one player with the Key to the Arcatraz (or a rogue with 350 lockpicking) opens that door for the group.

Sha’tar Rewards by Reputation Level

The Sha’tar rewards that matter most are the Warpforged Key and Glyph of Power at Revered and the Gavel of Pure Light at Exalted. Everything is sold by Almaador on the Terrace of Light.

FAQ

Do you get Sha’tar rep from the Tempest Keep raid (The Eye)?

No. The Eye gives no Sha’tar rep. Only the three five-player Tempest Keep dungeons (Mechanar, Botanica, Arcatraz) and Sha’tar quests raise it past Friendly.

Can you buy Sha’tar rep?

Only up to the end of Friendly: Aldor or Scryer turn-in items from the Auction House spill half their rep over to the Sha’tar until 5999/6000. The Sha’tar have no turn-in items of their own.

How much Sha’tar rep is in Netherstorm?

About 3,000 from quests: Special Delivery to Shattrath City, How to Break Into the Arcatraz and Harbinger of Doom give 1,000 each. Open-world Netherstorm mobs give no Sha’tar rep; the rest comes from the three dungeons.

What is the Altar of Sha’tar?

The Altar of Sha’tar is the Aldor base in northern Shadowmoon Valley, with the Scryer counterpart at the Sanctum of the Stars. Its quests give Aldor rep, so they only add Sha’tar rep through spillover, which stops at the end of Friendly.
