Farming Essence of Air in Silithus
The red area in the map below is where you can find the Air Elementals. This spot should have enough mobs for 2 people to be farming Essence of Air here. You should prefer the northern part, though, since the Dust Stormers only spawn there, the western part has Whirling Invaders. The Dust Stormers have a much higher chance to drop Essence of Air, 12%. The Invaders only have a chance of 7%. Elemental Air and Breath of Wind drops at around the same chance for both. These aren’t usually worth a lot, so try to focus on the Dust Stormers.
Essence of Earth Farming
If the Air Elementals are too over farmed, you have two options:
You can either switch over to the Desert Rumblers in the Yellow area, who drop Essence of Earth, Elemental Earth and Core of Earth. The drop rates for these mobs are not as good, but you can switch over pretty much instantly.
Or you can switch to farming Runecloth in one of the Twilight Hammer camps. They are very close, too and the spot also has quite good gold per hour.
This spot is so badly nerfed its ridiculous. Killed over 70 Dust stormers and 60 Desert Rumblers all i got was 2 elemental earths and 2 elemental airs. Not a single essence. Thanks Blizzard. Who should really have to spend 8 hours farming for 3 or 4 Essence looool.
you’re better off farming something like mara for that amount of time and just buying them with plenty of gold left over for other things.
From one Chris to another- nothing has been nerfed. The low drop rate has always been the reality with these mobs all the way back to Vanilla. You seem to have been a bit unlucky, but luck evens out over the long run. The alternative is to farm something else and simply buy out these essences if it’s too much for you.
I suspect the reason people incorrectly think the essence of air drop rate is 10% instead of being exactly the same as essence of earth (3%) is because they were using a broken tracker to figure it out. Dust stormers usually don’t drop anything, while Desert Rumblers almost always drop something. I’m betting whichever addon originally created these numbers didn’t list count the dropless kills as kills.
