World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, and Alchemy changed more than most professions: healing potions moved to First Aid, Discolored Healing Potions took their place, Merchant’s Favor sells a new set of elixirs and the specializations are gone. This WoW Forever alchemy leveling guide is the cheapest 1-300 route we could build from the beta client’s skill-up data. It uses trainer recipes only up to 265, about 510 herbs to reach 225, and no fish or vendor recipes before 265.
How solid this is: every skill threshold below comes from SeeMeta’s Forever Alchemy table (updated October 10), and we checked each one against the beta client’s own skill-line data in build 1.60.1.70338 on wago.tools: all of them match. Skill 1 to 225 can be checked in the beta, and WoW-Professions’ beta-tested route confirms the steps we share with it. Skill 225 to 300 is untested everywhere, because Artisan Alchemy needs character level 35 and the beta stops at 30. Craft counts are our estimates from Classic’s skill-up formula.
Quick Answer: Alchemy 1-300 in WoW Forever
- Route: Minor Arcane Elixir to 10, Elixir of Minor Defense to 65, Elixir of Minor Fortitude to 90, Elixir of Wisdom to 120, Lesser Mana Potion to 160, Mana Potion to 185, Elixir of Agility to 205, Catseye Draught to 230, Draught of Detect Undead to 245, Elixir of Greater Agility to 265, Elixir of Greater Defense to 300.
- Materials: 513 herbs to 225 (the big ones are 92 Peacebloom, 89 Stranglekelp and 74 Mageroyal), then 114 herbs and 43 Stonescale Eels from 225 to 300.
- Cost, our estimate: about 22 gold of vials at the beta client’s vendor prices (20 gold of that is Crystal Vials after 230), about 5 gold for the four ranks and a few gold of recipes. If you pick the herbs yourself, Alchemy 1-300 costs roughly 30 gold.
- Time: about 360 crafts, which is under 20 minutes of casting at 3 seconds each (Mana Potion takes 5). Gathering the herbs is the real time cost.
- Gates: Journeyman at skill 50 and level 10, Expert at 125 and level 20 (Darnassus or Undercity only), Artisan at 200 and level 35 (Feathermoon or Stonard only).
What Changed for Alchemy in WoW Forever
WoW Forever Alchemy keeps most Classic recipes at their Classic skill levels but loses its easiest sellers and gains three new recipe families. These are the changes that affect leveling:
| Change | What it means | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Healing potions moved to First Aid | No Healing Potion recipe is left in Alchemy, so every Classic route step built on them is gone | BlizzCon demo; SeeMeta and Zockify list none for Alchemy |
| Discolored Healing Potions | Six ranks that heal 160 to 2,800 instantly, but 75% of it comes back as a 6-second poison or 12-second disease. Each needs one herb and a Murloc Eye | Datamined (spell data); October 8 notes: their damage no longer breaks crowd control |
| New potions and elixirs | Spirit, Mageblood, Cleric’s, Spellblasting, Frenzy and Mender’s lines from skill 15 to 300, most of them orange for only 5 points | Datamined (SeeMeta, Zockify) |
| Merchant’s Favor recipes | 29 Alchemy recipes for 45 to 240 Favor | Datamined (Zockify) |
| Alchemist’s Stone | Craftable trinket at 275, see below | Datamined |
| No specializations | No Potion, Elixir or Transmutation Master | Zockify (beta data) |
| Transmute: Legionite | Heavy Thorium Bar and Fel Crystal into a Legionite Bar at 275 | Datamined |
| Fire Oil and Stonescale Oil make two | Half the fish for Elixir of Fire Power and Elixir of Greater Defense | Datamined (spell effects); Zockify marks both as changed |
| Auto-learned recipes | Minor Arcane Elixir, Elixir of Minor Force and Elixir of Minor Defense come with the profession | Datamined (skill-line data) |
| Legacy Points and a title | Skill 150, 225 and 300 each give one Legacy Point; the Alchemy Certification title costs 1,000 Favor at 300 | Blizzard panel (points), Zockify (title) |
The Discolored Healing Potion is the interesting one. A Superior one restores 1,600 health at once, about twice a Classic Superior Healing Potion, then hands back 1,200 over 6 or 12 seconds. Because the drawback is a poison or a disease, a cleanse might remove it; nobody has confirmed that in the beta yet.
WoW Forever Alchemy Trainers and Rank Requirements
WoW Forever alchemy trainers for Apprentice and Journeyman stand in every capital, but only two trainers per rank teach Expert and Artisan, according to Zockify’s beta trainer data. Rank gates are from Icy Veins’ beta table, costs from wow.gg’s Forever data.
| Rank | Skill cap | Requirement | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 75 | Character level 5 (Zockify; WoW-Professions saw no level check in the beta) | 10 copper |
| Journeyman | 150 | Skill 50, level 10 | 5 silver |
| Expert | 225 | Skill 125, level 20 | 50 silver |
| Artisan | 300 | Skill 200, level 35 | 4 gold 50 silver |

| # | Where | Trainers (rank, coordinates) | Faction |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stormwind, Mage Quarter | Tel’Athir (Apprentice, 55.5, 85.7), Lilyssia Nightbreeze (Journeyman, 55.7, 86.1); Alchemist Mallory in Elwynn Forest (Apprentice, 39.8, 48.2) | Alliance |
| 2 | Ironforge, Tinker Town | Vosur Brakthel (Apprentice, 66.3, 55.7), Tally Berryfizz (Journeyman, 66.6, 55.7) | Alliance |
| 3 | Dalaran, Alterac Mountains | Linzy Blackbolt and Patricia Egan (Apprentice and Journeyman, 18.5, 62.4) | Alliance |
| 4 | Undercity, Apothecarium | Doctor Martin Felben (Apprentice, 46.6, 74.1), Doctor Marsh (Journeyman, 50.9, 74.6), Doctor Herbert Halsey (Expert, 47.8, 73.3) | Horde |
| 5 | Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad | Serge Hinott (Journeyman, 61.6, 19.2) | Horde |
| 6 | Stonard, Swamp of Sorrows | Rogvar (Artisan, 48.5, 55.9) | Horde |
| 7 | Booty Bay, Stranglethorn | Jaxin Chong (Journeyman, 28.0, 78.0) | Both |
| 8 | Darnassus, Craftsmen’s Terrace | Milla Fairancora (Apprentice, 55.4, 22.7), Sylvanna Forestmoon (Journeyman, 56.4, 24.2), Ainethil (Expert, 54.9, 24.0) | Alliance |
| 9 | Silverwind Refuge, Ashenvale | Kylanna (Journeyman, 50.9, 67.1) | Alliance |
| 10 | Feathermoon Stronghold, Feralas | Kylanna Windwhisper (Artisan, 32.6, 43.8) | Alliance |
| 11 | Orgrimmar, the Drag | Whuut (Apprentice, 55.8, 32.9), Yelmak (Journeyman, 56.8, 33.0) | Horde |
| 12 | Thunder Bluff, Middle Rise | Kray (Apprentice, 46.7, 34.4), Bena Winterhoof (Journeyman, 46.6, 33.2) | Horde |
| Dots | Starting towns (Apprentice only) | Alliance: Cyndra Kindwhisper, Dolanaar (57.6, 60.8); Ghak Healtouch, Thelsamar (37.1, 49.4). Horde: Miao’zan, Sen’jin Village (55.4, 74.0); Carolai Anise, Brill (59.4, 52.2) | Both |
Plan your two long trips. In the Classic trainer data on classicdb, Doctor Herbert Halsey teaches Mana Potion, Elixir of Agility and Catseye Elixir, while the Journeyman trainer Doctor Marsh next to him does not. If Forever keeps that split, bring the herbs for 150 to 225 and craft the whole block next to the Expert trainer, learning each recipe as you reach its skill. Do the same at the Artisan trainer from 225 to 265.
WoW Forever Alchemy Leveling Route 1-225
The cheapest way to level Alchemy from 1 to 225 in WoW Forever is a chain of trainer recipes that never needs fish or a vendor recipe. Yellow and grey are the skill levels where a recipe starts to fail and where it stops giving points; until yellow, every craft is a point.
| Skill | Recipe (yellow / grey) | Crafts | Reagents each | Recipe from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1-10 | Minor Arcane Elixir (10 / 15) | 9 | Peacebloom, Empty Vial | Known with Alchemy |
| 10-65 | Elixir of Minor Defense (55 / 95) | 57 | Silverleaf, Peacebloom, Empty Vial | Known with Alchemy |
| 65-90 | Elixir of Minor Fortitude (80 / 120) | 27 | 2 Earthroot, Peacebloom, Empty Vial | Trainer, skill 50 |
| 90-120 | Elixir of Wisdom (120 / 160) | 30 | Mageroyal, 2 Briarthorn, Empty Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 90 |
| 120-160 | Lesser Mana Potion (145 / 185) | 44 | Mageroyal, Stranglekelp, Empty Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 120 |
| 160-185 | Mana Potion (180 / 220) | 26 | Stranglekelp, Kingsblood, Leaded Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 160 |
| 185-205 | Elixir of Agility (205 / 245) | 20 | Stranglekelp, Goldthorn, Leaded Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 185 |
| 205-225 | Catseye Draught (220 / 260) | 21 | Goldthorn, Fadeleaf, Leaded Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 200 |
The trainer’s skill requirement isn’t stored in the beta client, so the learn levels are Classic’s. Every yellow and grey value matches Classic, and WoW-Professions’ testers learned Elixir of Wisdom at 90 and Lesser Mana Potion at 120, which supports carrying the rest over. Three notes on the route:
- Elixir of Minor Defense past 55. It turns yellow at 55 but still succeeds 75 to 100% of the time until 65. That costs about two herbs more than Minor Mana Potion would for those ten points, but in cheap Silverleaf instead of Mageroyal, and you skip a recipe.
- Catseye Draught vs Greater Mana Potion. Greater Mana Potion has the same 220 / 260 range and sells far better. In classicdb’s Classic data the Expert trainer doesn’t teach it, so check your trainer’s list; if it’s there, swap it in with Khadgar’s Whisker instead of Fadeleaf.
- If you fish: Fire Oil now makes two oils per craft in the beta client. Fire Oil from 130 to 150 and Elixir of Fire Power from 150 to 165 replace about 33 Mageroyal and 38 Stranglekelp with 40 Firefin Snapper and 10 extra Kingsblood.
For comparison, WoW-Professions’ beta-tested route to 225 needs about 460 herbs plus 40 Firefin Snapper and a vendor recipe from Feralas, Stranglethorn or Tanaris. Ours needs about 55 more herbs and nothing else.
Alchemy 225-300: The Untested Part
Alchemy 225 to 300 in WoW Forever can’t be tested before launch, because Artisan needs character level 35. The thresholds below are from the beta client; the route is our plan on paper. Forever’s trainers run out of orange recipes at 265, and Classic routes finished with Major Healing Potion, which now belongs to First Aid. The last 35 points need a bought recipe.
| Skill | Recipe (yellow / grey) | Crafts | Reagents each | Recipe from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 225-230 | Catseye Draught (220 / 260) | 6 | Goldthorn, Fadeleaf, Leaded Vial | Already known |
| 230-245 | Draught of Detect Undead (245 / 285) | 15 | Arthas’ Tears, Crystal Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 230 |
| 245-265 | Elixir of Greater Agility (255 / 295) | 22 | Sungrass, Goldthorn, Crystal Vial | Trainer (Classic value): 240 |
| 265-300 | Elixir of Greater Defense (280 / 320) | 43 | 2 Stonescale Oil, Sungrass, Crystal Vial | Vendor in Classic: Soolie Berryfizz (Ironforge), Kor’geld (Orgrimmar), 1 gold 30 silver |
Stonescale Oil is a trainer recipe that turns one Stonescale Eel into two oils in Forever, so the last step costs 43 eels. The recipe is Recipe: Elixir of Superior Defense in Classic (per classicdb), renamed Elixir of Greater Defense in Forever; buy it early and learn it from your bags at 265. Two alternatives:
- No fishing: Superior Mana Potion from 265 to 300 takes about 49 crafts, 97 Sungrass and 97 Blindweed. The beta data has it as a recipe item, not a trainer recipe; WoW-Professions lists Algernon in Undercity and Ulthir in Darnassus as sellers.
- Major Frenzy Potion for 290-300: the only Merchant’s Favor recipe that reaches 300 (240 Favor) needs about 16 crafts, 49 Plaguebloom and 33 Blindweed. Each craft also takes an Imbued Vial, which costs 3 gold in the beta client, so the vials alone run near 50 gold. Elixir of Greater Defense covers the same 10 points for about 4 gold of Crystal Vials.
Alchemy 1-300 Shopping List
This is the full shopping list for our WoW Forever Alchemy route, rounded up. Add 5 to 10% if you want a buffer for unlucky yellow crafts.
| Material | 1-225 | 225-300 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peacebloom | 92 | 92 | |
| Silverleaf | 57 | 57 | |
| Earthroot | 53 | 53 | |
| Mageroyal | 74 | 74 | |
| Briarthorn | 60 | 60 | |
| Stranglekelp | 89 | 89 | |
| Kingsblood | 26 | 26 | |
| Fadeleaf | 21 | 7 | 28 |
| Goldthorn | 41 | 28 | 69 |
| Arthas’ Tears | 15 | 15 | |
| Sungrass | 64 | 64 | |
| Stonescale Eel | 43 | 43 | |
| Empty Vial (20 copper) | 166 | 166 | |
| Leaded Vial (2 silver) | 66 | 50 | 116 |
| Crystal Vial (25 silver) | 79 | 79 |
Vial prices are the beta client’s vendor prices, the same as Classic. Any Alchemy supply vendor sells all three.
Which Herbs to Gather for Alchemy, and Where
Keep Herbalism within 15 points of Alchemy and you can pick every herb on this route yourself, except Arthas’ Tears. The tightest steps are Elixir of Agility at Alchemy 185, which needs Goldthorn at Herbalism 170, and Elixir of Greater Agility at 245 with Sungrass at 230. Our WoW Forever herbalism leveling guide has route maps for every zone below; spawn counts there are Classic data, since Forever’s node positions aren’t public.

| Herb (Herbalism skill) | Alchemy range | Best zones (Classic spawn counts) |
|---|---|---|
| Peacebloom, Silverleaf (1), Earthroot (15) | 1-90 | Any starting zone; Durotar and the Barrens have the most |
| Mageroyal (50), Briarthorn (70) | 90-160 | The Barrens, Westfall, Darkshore, Duskwood |
| Stranglekelp (85) | 120-205 | Underwater along any coast; pick every one you swim past |
| Kingsblood (125) | 160-185 | Stranglethorn Vale, Hillsbrad Foothills |
| Fadeleaf (160), Goldthorn (170) | 185-265 | Stranglethorn Vale, Arathi Highlands |
| Arthas’ Tears (220) | 230-245 | Off our herb route (Felwood and the Plaguelands in Classic); buy 15 |
| Sungrass (230) | 245-300 | The Hinterlands, Azshara |
What to Sell While Leveling Alchemy
Healing potions are no longer Alchemy’s money-maker in WoW Forever: First Aid makes them, and every character can level First Aid. Our WoW Forever professions guide covers that change. What your leveling crafts are worth instead:
- Sell: Lesser Mana, Mana and Greater Mana Potions to casters (the October 8 build lets Druids drink them in Bear and Cat Form), Elixir of Agility and Greater Agility to Hunters and Rogues, Elixir of Greater Defense to tanks.
- Keep a few for writs: Craftsman’s Writs, which come from Sealed Writs that enemies drop and can be traded, ask for Elixir of Wisdom, Lesser Mana Potion, Mana Potion, Elixir of Agility and Catseye Draught among others, per Zockify. Turning them in gives reputation with your faction’s trade organization.
- Use or vendor: Minor Arcane Elixir, Elixir of Minor Defense, Minor Fortitude and Draught of Detect Undead. Demand for them is small.
- Wait and see: Discolored Healing Potions. About twice the burst of a Classic healing potion could sell to PvP players and tanks, but nobody knows the demand or how common Murloc Eyes will be.
Merchant’s Favor Alchemy Recipes Worth Buying
Merchant’s Favor recipes are not worth buying for Alchemy skill: most are orange for only 5 points and cost 2 to 6 herbs per craft, usually 4 or 5. Buy them for the potions. You earn Favor by filling Waylaid Crates (5 to 20 Favor per crate at Apprentice and Journeyman, plus 50 for the first crate’s quest) and spend it at the Azeroth Commerce Authority camp at Three Corners in Redridge (10.5, 72.7) or the Durotar Supply and Logistics camp west of the Crossroads (49.7, 29.5), per Zockify’s Merchant’s Favor page. Favor is per character.
| Favor | Alchemy recipes (skill) | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| 45 | Elixir of Lesser Spirit (65), Lesser Mageblood Elixir (75), Lesser Cleric’s Elixir and Elixir of Lesser Intellect (95), Lesser Arcane Elixir (120), Mender’s Potion (130), Spellblasting Potion (135), Frenzy Potion (140) | Only for your own leveling buffs |
| 120 | Elixir of Greater Spirit (165), Greater Mageblood Elixir (175, 20 mana per 5 sec), Disorienting Smog Potion (180), Greater Cleric’s Elixir (195), Elixir of Greater Fortitude (200, +400 health), Dragonfire Potion (245) | Greater Fortitude, for tanks and leveling |
| 180 | Elixir of the Phalanx (250, +400 health, +500 armor), Caustic Smog Potion (265), Elixirs of Cunning, Ferocity, Sages and the Whale, Potion of Venomous Blood (275), Elixir of the Owl, Major Mender’s Potion, Potion of Elemental Purging (280), Elixirs of Nature Power and Wicked Regeneration, Major Spellblasting Potion (285) | Phalanx and Major Spellblasting look like raid consumables |
| 240 | Major Frenzy Potion (290, +80 attack power for 30 sec), Elixir of the Grizzly (300, +25 Strength, +2% crit for 30 min) | Yes for melee raiders, if the stats hold |
Effect values come from the beta client’s spell data and can change before launch. The 30-minute elixirs could become the Alchemy products every raid buys at 60. The 30-second potions will likely share the potion cooldown with mana potions, as potions do in Classic.
Alchemist’s Stone in WoW Forever
The Alchemist’s Stone is a trinket WoW Forever alchemists can craft at skill 275. In the beta client it’s an uncommon, bind-on-pickup trinket that needs level 45, has Spirit, raises the effect of healing and mana potions on you by 20% and works as a Philosopher’s Stone for transmutes. The recipe asks for 8 each of Essence of Fire, Earth, Air and Water and Living Essence, plus 2 Black Vitriol and 4 Black Lotus, and the recipe’s source isn’t known. Treat it as a level 60 project, not a leveling step. The same goes for Transmute: Legionite, which needs a Heavy Thorium Bar (Mining 300 at a Molten Foundry, see our WoW Forever mining leveling guide) and a Fel Crystal from an unknown source.
Alchemy Camp Objects: Mana Well and Laboratory
Alchemy’s camp objects all grant the Mana Well buff to players sitting at your campfire. The values below come from the beta client’s spell data:
- Mana Well (trainer, skill 20; Peacebloom and Empty Vial): mana regeneration for everyone nearby, 10 mana per 5 seconds below level 24, rising to 29 from level 54, and it doesn’t stack with Blessing of Wisdom. It’s yellow from 20 to 25, so make one when you learn it.
- Fermenter (Blueprint, skill 140; Leaded Vial, Kingsblood, Swiftthistle): the Mana Well buff plus the creation of “certain reagents”. The Blueprint drops from Rath’mael in the Ruins of Lordaeron, per Zockify.
- Alchemy Laboratory (Blueprint, skill 300; Lich’s Index Finger, Crystal Vial, 2 Dreamfoil): the Mana Well buff and a workstation for “recipes that require it”. Neither the Blueprint source nor those recipes are known yet.
What We Don’t Know Yet
- Trainer skill requirements: the client doesn’t store them, so our learn levels are Classic’s. The four Discolored Healing Potion trainer recipes match Classic’s Lesser, regular, Greater and Superior Healing Potion thresholds exactly, which suggests learn levels of 55, 110, 155 and 215, but that’s our inference.
- Which trainers teach the Expert and Artisan recipes, and whether Classic vendor recipes such as Elixir of Greater Defense keep their vendors.
- Where many new recipes come from: the low-level Mageblood, Cleric’s, Spellblasting, Frenzy and Mender’s recipes, the Major Discolored Healing Potion, the Alchemist’s Stone, Transmute: Legionite and the Fel Crystal it needs.
- How common Murloc Eyes are. If they’re cheap, the Discolored Healing Potions need only one herb per craft and could undercut parts of this route.
- Whether Forever’s skill-up chances follow Classic’s formula. Our craft counts assume they do.
- Anything from 225 to 300, until players reach level 35 after November 4. The Legacy System perk Working Overtime raises skill-up chances and would cut these counts.
FAQ
Where is the alchemy trainer in WoW Forever?
Every capital has Apprentice and Journeyman alchemy trainers in WoW Forever, for example Whuut and Yelmak in Orgrimmar’s Drag and Tel’Athir and Lilyssia Nightbreeze in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter. Expert is only taught in Darnassus and Undercity, Artisan only in Feathermoon Stronghold and Stonard.
What level do you need for Expert and Artisan Alchemy in WoW Forever?
Expert Alchemy needs skill 125 and character level 20, Artisan needs skill 200 and character level 35, according to the beta data on Icy Veins and Zockify. Gathering professions have lower level gates.
What is the fastest way to level Alchemy 1-300 in WoW Forever?
Follow one cheap trainer recipe per bracket and change as soon as it turns yellow: Elixir of Minor Defense to 65, Elixir of Wisdom to 120, Lesser Mana Potion to 160, Mana Potion and Elixir of Agility to 205, Catseye Draught and Draught of Detect Undead to 245, then Elixir of Greater Agility and Elixir of Greater Defense to 300. It takes about 360 crafts.
Can alchemists make healing potions in WoW Forever?
Not regular ones. Healing Potions moved to First Aid; Alchemy makes Discolored Healing Potions, which heal about twice as much at once but return 75% of it as poison or disease damage.
