Farming expensive items in Classic WoW
The southern area of Winterspring has lots of different elite mobs, each of them dropping some quite expensive items. These locations for farming epic items are not suitable for all classes, as the drop rates are around 1%, so you need a decent kill speed. Classes like Hunters, Warlocks and Mages are ideal, though others can also do it. In the following post, I will go over these items and locations.
Farming The Eye of Shadow
Firstly, this item can also be farmed in The south of the Blasted Lands, where the World Boss “Lord Kazzak” also resides. This is why those mobs are a bit harder to kill, and also have a slightly increased drop chance. If you feel capable enough, you might want to try farming “The Eye of Shadow” there. I have marked the location in Winterspring in orange on the map below. In both of these areas, there are lots of Rich Thorium Vein spawns, which are not mined a lot, hence the elite mobs.
The eye is required for the epic quest for Priests, where they can get their staff. The initial part of the quest drops from Majordomo Executus in the Molten Core. With drop rates of around 1-2%, you will be there for quite some time until it drops. In the meantime though, the Demons also drop Felcloth and Demonic Runes, which are quite useful, especially if you have Tailoring. On my Server, the Eye of Shadow sells for around 300-400 gold.
Farming the Mature Blue Dragon Sinew
This item drops from the blue dragon kin, marked in dark blue on the map below. The Sinew is needed for the epic Hunter Quest and can usually be sold for around 300-400g, just like the Eye of Shadow. With drop rates of around 0.5%, it is not quite as good as the demons. If you have Skinning, though, it’s a bit better, as the Dragons can be skinned for Blue Dragon scales and Rugged Leather.
There is also a cave near the spot, containing many more of these dragons, and even some larger ones at the end. The “Manaclaw” has a slightly increased drop chance of just above 1%, so it can be worth it to only farm in the cave.
Frostmaul E’ko & Recipe: Greater Frost Protection Potion
The giants in the ravine just north of the demons, marked in light blue, don’t drop a very expensive item. What they do drop though, is the Recipe: Greater Frost Protection Potion, at around 3% drop chance. In addition to that, they also drop Frostmaul E’ko, which can be turned into Juju Might in Everlook. This is a consumable that increases the Attack Power by 40 for 10 minutes. The E’ko usually sells for around 4 gold per piece and has a drop rate of 2% from the giants. All in all, you won’t be farming expensive items here, not that expensive at least, but you have better chances.
