Rugged Leather farming in WoW Forever means level 50 to 60 beasts: the yetis of Winterspring, the scorpids and Dredge Strikers of Silithus, and Un’Goro Crater, where almost every animal can be skinned. WoW Forever keeps Classic’s mob spawns in the original zones, so these spots work in WoW Forever and in Classic. Forever raises the demand: Leatherworkers need Rugged Leather from skill 225 instead of 250, about 670 per character from 225 to 300 against roughly 450 on a Classic route, and every Tailor needs about 140 more.
Updated November 3, 2026: now covers WoW Forever, which keeps Classic’s mob spawns. Corrected: the Winterspring yetis don’t drop Runecloth.
Winterspring Yeti Cave
The Yetis around this Cave can be amazing for classic Rugged Leather farming! They are unusual: Ice Thistle Yetis (level 55 to 56) are humanoids you can skin, at about 0.5 Rugged and 0.43 Thick Leather per skin in Classic data. In addition to this, there are also some Thorium Veins inside the Cave, so if you want to double up even more, this is the place.

Silithus
Silithus is good, because the mobs have a high level, just like in Winterspring, so they have a higher chance for Rugged Leather. There are 3 types of mobs here: Scorpions, Spiders and Duneworms. While the Spiders are not skinnable, they drop good silk, which can be sold on the Auction House. In addition to that, the Scorpions also drop their Scales, which also sell quite well. Here’s the spot:

Un’Goro Crater, the Skinners heaven
While next to every mob in Un’Goro Crater can be skinned for Rugged Leather and Thick Leather, the chances are not as good as the other two zones, so you will get more Thick Leather. I will not provide a map for this zone, as you can literally just kill any mob here, 95% are skinnable. If you are looking for Devilsaur Leather though, this zone is the only place where it is obtainable. If you have Leatherworking, the combination of these two professions can make even more gold than just selling the Leather. Now, go and get your Rugged Leather farming on =).
Rugged Leather in WoW Forever
Rugged Leather in WoW Forever drops from the same level 50 to 60 beasts as in Classic, but crafters need much more of it. Forever’s Leatherworking recipes go grey 25 points sooner, so Rugged recipes start at skill 225 instead of 250: about 673 Rugged Leather from 225 to 300 on our route, against 447 on a standard Classic route. What else changes:
- Tailors want it too. Runecloth Gloves and Shoulders on our Tailoring route take about 143 Rugged Leather, and the Runecloth Reagent Bag, the Sewing Machine and the Master Forge use some as well.
- The best rate per skin in Classic data is in the northern Eastern Plaguelands: Frenzied Plaguehounds and Monstrous Plaguebats (level 56 to 58) give about 0.81 Rugged Leather per skin. Silithus’ Dredge Strikers and Crushers match it and add a Rugged Hide on one skin in five.
- Waylaid Crates. Forever’s Artisan Textiles crate takes 20 Rugged or 20 Thick Leather for Merchant’s Favor, per Zockify’s beta data.
- One skin per corpse, as in Classic, per Blizzard’s October 1 beta notes.
- Market, our estimate. One skinner’s 1-300 run yields only 25 to 30 Rugged Leather, so the market starts once the first skinners reach level 50 and stays hungry.
Our WoW Forever skinning leveling guide maps every beast in Un’Goro Crater for skill 240 to 300, and the WoW Forever leatherworking leveling guide lists the Rugged Leather steps from 225. The WoW Forever professions guide covers Forever’s other Leatherworking changes, such as the new armor kits.
