Silk Cloth farming
Silk cloth farming is a great option to get the funds for your first mount. It is much needed for Tailoring and First Aid, so you should have no problems selling it, especially on newer servers.

Swamp of Sorrows Silk Cloth farming
The Lost Ones in the northern part of the Swamp of Sorrows are amazing for farming gold at low levels. They are around level 36-38, making them perfect to farm for your level 40 mount. Silk Cloth usually sells for ~1g per stack, and they also have great drop rates for grey items. While testing this spot, I got above 10g per hour with ease. I advise taking at least 12 slot bags all around though, if you are alliance, since the nearest trader is a little way.
Arathi Highlands Trolls
The trolls in the south-east of the Arathi Highlands are a great alternative. The great part about this spot is, that the traders are very close for both factions. The drop rates are not as good as the Lost Ones in the previous locations, so this might only really be worth it for Alliance players. You can also swap around to farming some Elementals, if you get bored. In any case, here’s the Map:
