The best place to farm Mana Thistle for most players is a loop from the Barrier Hills above Shattrath to Skettis in south-east Terokkar Forest and on to Netherwing Ledge in Shadowmoon Valley. That flight covers three of the six spawn areas and passes Terocone, the herb that goes into the same Flask of Relentless Assault.
- Needs: 375 Herbalism (skill bonuses count) and a flying mount, so level 70 and Expert Riding.
- Yield: about 7 to 30 Mana Thistle per hour depending on competition and mount speed (our estimate, see below).
- Avoid: parking at Socrethar’s Seat in Netherstorm. It’s the one spot players without flying can reach, and forum reports from 2026 describe it as the most camped.

Mana Thistle Locations: Every Spawn Area
Mana Thistle spawns in six areas of Outland, all on high ground or floating islands that need flying. The table lists them with the other gathers you pick up in each area. Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh have no Mana Thistle at all.

Terokkar Forest: Barrier Hills and Skettis
Terokkar Forest has two Mana Thistle areas: the Barrier Hills directly north-west of Shattrath City, and Skettis, the arakkoa city in the south-east corner of the zone. The Barrier Hills are a two-minute flight from the Shattrath bank. Skettis is larger and also full of Terocone, so it is the stronger of the two.
Nagrand: Twilight Ridge
Nagrand’s Mana Thistle grows on Twilight Ridge and the cliffs south of it along the far western edge of the zone, above Forge Camp: Hate and Forge Camp: Fear. It’s out of the way, which is its main advantage: when Terokkar is crowded on your layer, Nagrand is often quieter.
Shadowmoon Valley: Netherwing Ledge
Netherwing Ledge is the large floating landmass in the south-east of Shadowmoon Valley, reachable only by flying. It has Mana Thistle all over it, plus Netherdust Bushes that herbalists pick for a Netherwing daily. Netherstorm: Socrethar’s Seat
Netherstorm has one Mana Thistle area: Socrethar’s Seat, the small island north-west of Forge Base: Gehenna. It’s the only spawn area you can reach without flying, through Socrethar’s Teleportation Stone from the Scryer quest Turning Point or a warlock summon, and that is exactly why it’s crowded. A Blizzard forum thread from March 2026 described four to ten players per layer hovering over it waiting for a spawn.
Blade’s Edge Mountains: Forge Camps and Plateaus
Blade’s Edge Mountains has four small Mana Thistle areas, all on flying-only plateaus: Forge Camp: Terror, Forge Camp: Wrath, Bash’ir Landing and Crystal Spine. They are spread across the zone, so a dedicated loop wastes a lot of flight time. Fly them only if you are on the plateaus anyway for Ogri’la or Skyguard dailies.
Best Mana Thistle Farming Route (and Why)
The best Mana Thistle farming route links the Barrier Hills, Skettis and Netherwing Ledge into one loop that starts and ends in Shattrath. Skettis sits on the Shadowmoon Valley border, so Netherwing Ledge is a short flight further south-east, and three spawn areas share one trip.
- Start at Shattrath City and fly up onto the Barrier Hills directly north-west of the city. Circle the ridge once.
- Fly south-east across Terokkar Forest toward Skettis, picking Terocone and Felweed along the forest edge.
- Sweep Skettis in wide passes. Terocone is dense here, and Mana Thistle shows up between the arakkoa buildings.
- Continue east over the cliffs into Shadowmoon Valley and circle Netherwing Ledge.
- Fly back west the same way, or hearth to Shattrath when your bags are full, and start again.
Why this route: it covers three of the five open spawn areas without long empty flights, it ends at the Shattrath Auction House and bank, and the Terocone you pick on the way is the other herb in Flask of Relentless Assault, one of the best-selling flasks. Switch to Nagrand or Blade’s Edge when you see several herbalists flying the same loop. On a crowded layer, a quiet route with fewer spawns beats a famous route where someone else reaches every node first.
Mana Thistle Farming Requirements: Herbalism and Flying
Picking Mana Thistle requires 375 Herbalism, the TBC maximum. Skill bonuses count toward that, so you can start earlier: Tauren get +15 from Cultivation, Herbalist’s Gloves add +5, and Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism another +5. A Tauren with both glove bonuses can pick Mana Thistle at 350 skill.
Flying needs level 70 and Expert Riding, which costs 800 gold from the flight trainer in Honor Hold or Thrallmar, plus about 100 gold for a flying mount, before reputation discounts. Basic flying moves at 150% speed and epic flying (5,000 gold for Artisan Riding) at 280%. On a herb loop, that means an epic flyer covers nearly twice the ground per hour.
Mana Thistle Per Hour: Realistic Numbers
A realistic Mana Thistle farm on TBC Anniversary yields about 7 to 30 herbs per hour. Blizzard publishes no spawn rates, so the numbers below are our estimates, built from the size of the spawn areas, one to two herbs per node and the competition players reported in 2026. Treat them as a planning range, not a promise.

The side herbs matter as much as the thistle. On the Terokkar loop, Terocone, Felweed and Dreaming Glory nodes usually outnumber Mana Thistle several times over. Mana Thistle nodes also drop Motes of Life (roughly 15% per node according to community guides) and occasionally a Fel Lotus, which every flask needs. Each Mana Thistle you pick also restores 500 to 3,500 mana, a small bonus for casters.

Flask of Supreme Power is not on the list. It’s a vanilla recipe made from Dreamfoil, Mountain Silversage and Black Lotus, with no Mana Thistle. All five TBC flask recipes are learned through discovery while making other potions, so not every alchemist can make every flask.
Mana Thistle Price and Competition in Phase 3
Mana Thistle has been one of the most expensive Outland herbs on TBC Anniversary. A player on the Blizzard forums wrote in March 2026 that they were buying under 19 gold, and Anniversary market snapshots from spring and summer 2026 put it at roughly 12 to 22 gold per herb. We could not check a live, realm-wide price for September 2026, so look at your own Auction House before you plan around a number.
Two things push the price down in Phase 3. First, raiders can buy Shattrath Flasks for one Mark of the Illidari each. The marks drop from trash in Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Mount Hyjal and Black Temple, and the vendor needs Exalted with the Aldor or Scryers, the Cenarion Expedition and the Sha’tar (see our Sha’tar rep guide). Those flasks only work inside those raids, so crafted flasks still sell for Karazhan, Gruul, Magtheridon and to players short of the reputation. Second, more characters have flying now, and March 2026 forum posts already complained about bots on the fixed spawn points.
What keeps it up: the recipe demand is fixed at three per flask, nodes are rare and yield little, and every progression raid night burns flasks. If you have a flask discovery and the other herbs, compare the flask price with three raw Mana Thistle plus the rest of the materials before you sell raw.
